From the Repair Bench to WordPress: Why We Built BenchMend
A repair-management system shaped by the day-to-day needs of a working electronics repair business in Brechin, Angus.
Running an electronics repair business involves far more than completing the repair itself. Every device has to be booked in, identified, tracked, updated, tested, reported on and returned to the correct customer. Parts, repair evidence, warranties, messages and costs all have to remain connected throughout that process.
At CNLS Electronics, we handle local and UK-wide mail-in repairs covering games consoles, phones, tablets, laptops, computers and board-level faults. After years of managing real customer repairs, we knew exactly where ordinary systems created extra work.
That experience led us to build our own private workshop system. What began as a practical solution for CNLS Electronics has now developed into BenchMend: a WordPress repair-management plugin created for other repair businesses.
BenchMend was not designed around an imaginary workflow. It grew from the everyday problems, decisions and repetitive admin involved in running a real repair bench.
Why we needed something different
Many general customer-management and support systems can store a name, status and message, but repair businesses need more context. A technician may need to know whether a device has arrived, which part is reserved, what evidence was recorded, whether the customer has been updated, how the repair was returned and when its warranty expires.
We wanted one clear system that could follow a repair from the moment it was booked until it was completed, without forcing an electronics workshop into a generic sales or support workflow.
