Mail-in repairs

How to pack your device safely

Follow this guide before posting your device to CNLS Electronics. Careful packing protects it in transit and helps us identify, test and return your repair without unnecessary delays.

The essentials

Four steps for a safer delivery

You do not need specialist packaging. A sturdy box, generous protective padding and a clearly labelled booking are the important parts.

01

Prepare the device

Remove loose media, back up important data where possible and record its condition.

02

Wrap it securely

Use several layers of bubble wrap and give corners and fragile areas extra protection.

03

Pack the box

Fill every gap so nothing can move when the sealed parcel is gently shaken.

04

Send it tracked

Choose suitable insurance, retain proof of postage and keep your tracking details.

Before you pack

What to send

Please send only what we need to complete and test the booked repair.

Please include

  • The device requiring repair.
  • Laptop power supply/charger when sending a laptop.
  • Your name and order number on a note placed inside the parcel.
  • The screen passcode for phones and iPads so we can fully test the device before and after repair.

Please do not include

  • Controllers, HDMI cables, TV cables, stands, docks or games.
  • Phone or tablet cases, removable memory cards or SIM cards.
  • Console power or display cables.
  • Any other accessories unless CNLS Electronics has specifically asked for them.

Damaged or swollen batteriesIf a battery is swollen, punctured, leaking, unusually hot or otherwise physically damaged, contact us before posting. Standard postal and courier services may restrict or prohibit damaged batteries.

Packing the parcel

Protect it on every side

Parcels can be stacked, tilted and knocked during normal transport. Pack for the journey, not only for how the parcel looks when it leaves your hands.

1
Choose a sturdy outer boxUse a strong, undamaged cardboard box with enough room for padding around the complete device.
2
Wrap the deviceUse several layers of bubble wrap or equivalent shock-absorbing material. Do not allow tape to touch the device itself.
3
Protect corners and screensAdd extra cushioning around console corners, laptop edges and phone or tablet screens.
4
Fill every empty spaceUse packing paper, air cushions or more bubble wrap so the wrapped device is held firmly in the centre.
5
Seal and test the parcelUse strong parcel tape across every opening. Gently shake the sealed box—if anything moves, add more padding.
Device-specific advice

A little extra protection where it matters

Games consoles

Remove discs and cartridges. Protect corners generously and never post a console loose in its retail box or a mailing bag.

Phones & iPads

Remove the case, SIM and memory card. Protect the screen with a flat layer of card before wrapping the whole device.

Laptops

Place padding between the closed screen and keyboard, protect all edges and pack the power supply separately within the same box.

Controllers

Wrap the controller fully, taking care not to place constant pressure on analogue sticks, triggers or shoulder buttons.

Phone and iPad passcodes

We need access to the device so its main functions can be checked before and after the repair.

  • Include the screen unlock passcode on the note with your name and order number.
  • You may set a temporary screen passcode before posting and change it again after the device is returned.
  • The passcode is used only for repair-related inspection and testing.
  • Never send Apple ID, Google account, email, banking or other account passwords.
  • Back up important data before sending whenever possible. Repairs are handled carefully, but a backup is always recommended.
Sending your parcel

Tracked, insured and clearly identified

Use the delivery address supplied with your booking and check that the service you choose provides enough compensation for the device’s value.

Use tracked delivery

Choose a tracked postal or courier service and keep the receipt and tracking number until the repair has been returned.

Check the insurance

Ensure the carrier’s loss and damage cover is appropriate for the device. Some services exclude or limit electronic items.

Label it carefully

Remove old labels from reused boxes. Place your details inside, but avoid advertising the parcel’s contents or value on the outside.

Once it reaches us

What happens after arrival?

Your device will be matched to the booking information supplied inside the parcel. We’ll inspect it and complete the booked repair, contacting you if testing reveals an additional fault or anything else that needs your approval.

Return-delivery time is separate from the workshop turnaround estimate.
